How to Drape a Fitted Bodice

Threads magazine - 144 – Aug./Sept. 2009

With a little gingham, a ruler, some pins, and a helpful friend, it’s a piece of cake to drape a fitted bodice.

Here is a method for fitting the top half of the female body that’s so simple and intuitive that it’s perfectly appropriate for beginning sewers. In fact, the helper you’ll need if you plan to fit yourself doesn’t even need be a sewer to do the fitting on you. Donald McCunn walks you through fitting a basic bodice shell, called a sloper, using a draping technique that requires only the simplest of measurements, because it relies primarily on obvious visual cues to tell the fitter how the job is going.
