Salmon Linen Pants and Top
comments (1) July 31st, 2009 in reader's closetAn acquaintance knew I sewed so when she gave me a large sack of fabric she no longer wanted, I was thrilled to find a couple pieces of lightweight linen in 4 yard lengths! Using McCall’s 5587 for the top and McCall’s 5633 for the pants, I made the following modifications.
After prewashing the fabric, I cut out top “A”, but quickly realized the sleeves were too voluminous for this fabric, so I cut 4 inches from the length. I also modified the tie belt to 3” in width. All seams are trimmed and finished with narrow top-stitiching on the front plackets. Shell buttons were placed down the front.
Using View “C” for my initial inspiration, I found the fabric to be too light weight for capris, so I made them into long pants, with no tabs. I used the pocket design in a slightly smaller version to just one side of the pant legs. I added the belt loops, so I can wear the top as a jacket with the tie through the belt loops, or tie it over the top as a complete outfit. The color matches a printed challis top and capris I had already made, so they can be mixed together.
