Linen Checked Summer Dress
August 8th, 2009 in reader's closetI recently dragged the sewing machine out of the closet to teach my tween how to sew. I saw the magazine "Altered Couture" and was hooked. This linen dress began as a high neck rayon tank from the resale shop. I scooped the neck and used the hem of the tank as the new collar for the dress. The capped puff sleeve is from Simplicity pattern 3538 and the skirt is a simple a-line skirt. I trimmed the front of the dress using the technique for shirring flat fabric to create textured trim from the 'Threads Magazine" September 2009 article. The top stiching was done in heavy thread using a simple design on my machine. I love my new dress and can't wait to get back to the resale shop to explore more options for great inexpensive and artfully done garmets.
