Outfit for Office … like Pro …

I had sketched and stitched this outfit (no pattern) almost 3 years ago. What I loved about this one was the details I had put on. The first time I used serger for the fabric lace using rolled hem function for the front and the wrist. The pencil skirt was inspired me long time ago …may be 1990s. Finally I made myself one. This outfit is super comfortable. There’s no button on the shirt (only one clip button under the round hand sequined pearls), so I can creat so many different looks by wearing little black lace tank top inside or a little black leather belt with the outfit. …

Thank you all for your comments. These mean a lot to me.

Ambitious, Your question really brought my memory back. Thanks for reminding me about my early sewing experience. I started sewing for myself at the end of highschool (1987). Just some simple button down shirts, sleeping dresses and pants for myself and my brother; made some hand-embroidered strap bags during my college. There was a gap about 3 years I'd never touch my mom sewing machine. Then when my bank requested wearing uniform (dark blue skirt and white shirt)I started again for my own uniform. Actually I earned some money from my colleages as I was asked to make skirts for them. That was around 1994. There was another big gap here - No sewing at all till 2005 when I moved to Canada and later on my husband brought home a Kenmore sewing machine and a serge for my 34th birthday and Xmas gifts. Caused of everthing here was so expensive compared with prices in Vietnam :) and my custom clothes there, I really went back to sewing.

The interesting was I learned to do think by just seeing how people did it or figured out myself how the item was made, the techniques, the shapes, the color combinations, and fashion trends on some professional website then practise... That's me now as I make clothes, stuff for my house, do some crafts...I cut my hairs and for my family (my husband and my sons never gone to barber's for years) and I do my own nail arts painting...

Thanks again and here is my website where I'm sharing my work

Got a good news for this outfit. It was chosen to be printed on Threads Magazine August/September 2010 Issue# 150. Thanks Threads to create such a nice place for us sharing our sewing passions.
