This review was originally featured in Threads #178 (April/May 2015).
This semifitted tailored jacket has flattering angled seams and distinctive features. It offers a unique take on princess seams, gives the illusion of a notched collar, has a cutaway curved front opening, and two-piece sleeves in a full-length style with a pointed hemline and button vent or a three-quarter-length option. The jacket is fully lined and has an inset collar that wraps around the neckline.
Two jacket length options are available. One view ends at the high hip, while the hip-length style has side-front, in-seam pockets. Our tester thought the sharp angle on the princess seams and the inset collar were tricky for a beginner to sew and suggests properly reinforcing the inner corners for a professional finish. Sew this pattern in medium-weight woven or stable knit fabrics that can hold a crease, such as four-ply silk, linen, gabardine, or wool flannel.
(Sized Misses’ 6-22 for busts 30.5-44 in.)
Style Tip: Consider color blocking or using a textured fabric to elevate this design.
