Pattern Roundup: Lantern Pants

Tapered-hem lantern pants are just the style to make now. Their interesting shape combines with a super comfortable fit. We have seen them made in wovens and knits, in a wide variety of hem lengths and styles. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite lantern pants patterns. All our choices have angled or in-seam pockets, and lots of style.

Style Arc Bob Woven Pant

These beginner-friendly, elastic-waist pants include in-seam pockets. Make them in linen, light wool, rayon, or crepe. The pattern comes in sizes 4 through 30, waist 23.5 inches to 50.5 inches, hips 32.6 inches to 61 inches.

These casual pants feature front inverted pleats and roomy side-seam pockets. I am in love. They combine the comfort of wide-legged pants with shaped side seams and a tapered hem. They include front- and back-leg seams and the option of a fully elasticized waistband or a fly-front version with traditional waistband front and elasticized back waist. The pattern is sold in women’s sizes 0 to 30 (waist 25 inches to 48 1/2 inches, hip 33 1/2 inches to 57 inches).

Sewing Workshop Panel Pants

These breezy, ankle-length pants with elasticized waist, side-seam pockets, and stitched hems are ideal for drapey woven fabrics. The fronts have center panels with three edgestitched sections and an optional lining. This pattern comes in sizes XS through XXL (waist 24.5 inches to 37 inches, hips 34 inches to 47.5 inches). The design has plenty of ease through the legs, so you may be able to go down a size or two; just be sure the finished waistline measurement is large enough to slide over your hips.

Tessuti Demi Pants

Tessuti Demi Pants

The Demi Pants are a pull-on, cropped lantern style featuring an elasticized waist and full leg with stitched-down pockets at the sides. There are pleats at the front and back hemline, and the hem is finished with a bias band. This is a quick and easy pattern to sew. Depending on your fabric selection, it works for day or evening. Women’s AU sizes XXS to XL (waist 69 cm to 94 cm, hip 91 cm to 116 cm).

In the Folds Darlow Pants

This design offers many curved panel lines for added interest. The pants sit at the natural waist and feature a fly-front zippered closure, shaped waistband, in-seam pockets, back pockets, and hem facings. Fitted through the waist and hip, the pants have volume through the leg before they taper at the ankle. If you want to emphasize the curved panel seams, add edgestitching in constrasting thread. Women’s AU sizes 6 to 24 (waist 24 inches to 45 5/8 inches, hip 33 inches to 54 3/4 inches).
