Pattern Review: Marfy 6107 Coat

Threads #201, Feb./March 2019

Marfy 6107

This updated classic coat has an exaggerated funnel-like, cut-on collar that may be worn closed with a button or open. It also features front and back princess seams, in-seam pockets, two-piece sleeves, and a center-back seam. The semifitted silhouette flatters the figure with the small bust dart emerging from the princess seam and has a hidden snap closure. Adding an optional self-fabric belt creates a lovely waistline focus. Our tester observed that every pattern piece is well-drafted. Marfy patterns have no seam or hem allowances, and no sewing instructions or illustrations. The location of the collar button is not marked on the pattern. Our seamstress noted that there are no pattern pieces for a lining. Pattern pieces are marked with essential match points, although the notch for matching the underarm is missing. Select coating-weight wovens with a dense weave structure to give body to this streamlined design.

(Sized European 42–52 for busts 34.63–43.38 in. and hips 36.25–44.88 in.)

Style Tip: Consider a contrasting fabric for the front facings, as they show when the collar is unbuttoned.
