Bernina machine part mystery

moira | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Tidying up my sewing room I came across a gadget that came with my Bernina Aurora 440 last year. I’ve no idea what it is but if I describe it maybe someone can tell me – it’s not illustrated in any of the stuff that came with the machine. It’s made of clear plastic, about 7 inches long but like a lollipop stick with a triangular paddle attached to it. At the widest end is something made of metal that looks a bit like a blade, but it isn’t sharp.

Any ideas what this thing is?

I haven't a clue; have you considered contacting Bernina's customer service and asking them? I'd love to know what it is, too.Sherry

It slides onto the tray that comes with the machine and gives you a wide seam allowance marker - it's sort of a ruler. I've got one (I have a bernina 1530) and I've never used it.

You are right - it does! Mystery solved. It remains to be seen whether I'll use it but it's got possibilities. Thank you. Come to think of it, how did you know? Did your instructions explain?

        Moira,
I've had this machine for over 15 yrs! I guess it was in my guide class that I learned about it, I actually may have used it once or twice, but I don't think I liked it much, and so, it sits in the bottom of a cabinet somewhere. When I need a seam allowance mark farther out then the machine gives you, I use a piece of tape - the blue painters tape works well since it is easy to remove.
