Brand Dress Form: Sew Simple Adjustable

WandaJ | Posted in Fitting on

I know, I know, I know, that there are discussions ad infinitum about dress forms; however, after a search I could not find mention of the Sew Simple Adjustable Dress Form sold by JOANN’s. Has anyone ever used this dress form? If so, I’m interested in feedback from you. JOANN’s has a Thanksgiving Weekend Sale coming up and this form, which normally sells for $149.99 is being made available at $79.99. Saving $70 seems to be a good deal for this item.

I’m looking forward to hearing from those of you that have purchased and use(d) this dress form.

OK, couldn't wait, so I called the local JOANN's to find out more about this product, after not seeing it on their Internet site.

    Here's what I found out:

    This is a new product.

It comes in 2 sizes: small (-33-1/2 bust and ? hips [sorry, I see that I didn't write this one down]; and medium (39 bust and 41-1/2 hips).

Availability: Only a few will be available in each store during the sale. If not available a 'small' [unstated] S & H charge will apply.

Price: Again, it's going for $79.99; however, it may be well worth noting that on Sat., Nov. 25th customers can take an additional 20% off their total purchase including regular and sale priced items.

Now, I still don't have much information to go on about the quality of the product and I'm still looking to members of this forum to provide me with that :->

      Hi WandaJ,
I haven't bought or used the dress form you're referring to but I just had a thought - have you looked that item up on Patternreview.com? Maybe someone there has some input for you.

P.S. Sounds like a fantastic sale.:)

Just wondering if you picked up the dress form.  I got mine this morning and used the 20% off coupon.

No, I did not. One of the deciding factors was that the description included a new longer waist... Also, I saw a dress form advertised at Hancock Fabrics for $20 more that was more in-line with my measurements. I did not pick this one up either as I believe/hope that the closer it gets to Christmas the price on this one may come down another $20, thus making it closer to the JOANN's dress form price.

How do you like the dress form not that you have purchased it? I do hope that you enjoy it.

I have an adjustable dress form that's an earlier model JoAnns sold. Works fine.

What makes the forms really useful is how you customize your own lumps, bumps and slumps onto the form. My suggestion is to scavenge old shoulder pads. They are a tapered shape that mimics body curves better than anything else, are free and are pinnable. Add these to your form where your shoulders are more rounded, your tummy more puffy, your boobs more saggy or whatever else isn't exactly like the model of dress form. And, if you change, you can move the pads.

The adjustments on the form are meant for you to get close to your figure, never to hit it dead on. If in doubt, use one that's a touch too small and pad it up with quilt batting.

If I had to buy over, I'd get the model that also allows pants fitting.
