Commercial Pattern Archive 1 week free

cycler1729 | Posted in General Discussion on

From the A Dress A Day site –

For ONE WEEK ONLY the Commercial Pattern Archive at the University of Rhode Island is offering free online access! Login with the username “guest” and the password “pattern”.

COPA has about 48,000 vintage patterns (including the small scale pattern piece images!) dating from 1868—2000. Believe me when I say you can be there ALL DAY.

I just spent a couple of hours there and it is unbelievable!

Looking at the 1950s and 1960s dresses I wish that we still dressed that way!

Are you kidding? I've been surfing this site for more than 2 hours! I literally have done nothing else tonight.  I just said to myself:  "self, step away from the computer"  This was such a treat!!!!

I thought that you'd appreciate it - did you login using the username "guest" and the password "pattern"?I don't think that the week is over yet.

Yep tried 4 times unless I'm dyslexifying guest and pattern? Maybe the site is overrun at this point and they are restricting guests so they don't crash. Didn't know a place like that exsisted!

          Yup - access denied.
I guess that I heard about it after the week had already begum - I'm sorry! But even looking at the images that change on the front page are interesting.

It was most gracious cycler1729 to post the notice on the patterns.  Seeing but one of the vintage patterns on the URI site was a delight.  Though my budget constraint keeps me from signing-up.

I have some vintages.  From my mother, 1 or 2 1920's - 1960/'70's, & my own - 1957 - and select to present.  I need to resolve what to do with the all .  My daughter, an accomplished sewist, went through them & kept some.

Before offering them anywhere, my mother's need to be checked.  She invariably  mixed patterns & most often pieces from one went "someplace" other than back into the original envelope.

With my daughter being a 4th generation sewist, I can only hope one of my 5 genetic grands takes up the doing.
