How to sew a pocket into a skirt side seam , where I will then do a french seam on the skirt.

Raglady51 | Posted in Fashion & Design on

I would like to sew pockets in the side seam skirt for a wedding dress for my daughter.  The skirt will be french seamed (satin). Would like it to all lie neatly. There will be a silk chiffon overlay, where I will tack the top and bottom pocket opening to the satin.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Marie

    Marie,

First stitch the pocket pieces to the garment and press. Then you will proceed as usual with the french seam Including the pocket be sure to pivot at the pocket and after it is sewn you will clip to the corners of the pocket. Be sure to clip just up to the seam not through it. I’ll see if I can find an example in threads. This might help though: https://inthefolds.com/blog/2015/9/7/sewing-in-seam-pockets-with-french-seams

Best of luck hope this helps.

Thank you Marcy. I will be working on that sometime today.
