Frank's store in Charlestown NH has all sorts of fabrics, fake fur, vinyl and other - I haven't been there in several years but know that materials to cover a yurt came from there - also upholstery fabric in quantity. The store is located across the road from sky diving hill and I've always called it Frank's regardless of whatever it might be called - been there for at least 20 years. Hope this helps - I've never tried to call or the like, I've always just gone there but I have known people who called with inquiries about what they had on hand and prices. This may or may not help.

Although I am in FL for the winter I do miss shopping Fabric Place which is an all round fabric store carrying everything including yarn.  Unfortunately two of them have recently closed ... the Randolph, MA and Warwick, RI stores but they still have their original store (which I have been shopping in for 40 years ... they used to carry clothing as well and were called Sportswear) and the store in Woburn in the mall with Market Basket which I believe is located on Washington Street.

They have a great seconds department for home dec fabric in which I have always had good luck.

    Hope this helps.........

I've been to the original Fabric Place, and I loved the unstructured ambience of it.  Around each corner was a new surprise.  I can't remember which city it's in, though.

The two original Fabric Place stores that existed before any expansion were in Framingham and Woburn. I believe it was the Woburn store that was the flagship. solo

        Hello again Linda,

I am afraid Solo is incorrect,  The flagship store was/is the Framingham store.  It was in existence long before the Woburn store.  I grew up in Wellesley and as I said we shopped in the '50's in the original store which was named Sportswear.  I believe it is still a family owned store and that is probably why they cannot compete with a store like JoAnn's that has a tremendous amount of buying power.

The original store, although it's name has changed, has not changed physically inside.  It is still on old building but as you said lot's of suprises around each corner.  I was sorry to see the Warwick and Randolph stores close as I now live about equal distance from Framingham, Warwick and Randolph and they did carry a slight variance of fabric from each other ... I especially found a difference in the Home Dec Seconds section but I am sure that is only because of what sold and what didn't  but my favorite is still Framingham.  Until about six years ago many of the same folks had worked there for as long as I could remember.

It is worth a trip to the Framingham store if you are not looking for something special at least that's when I seem to have the best luck.

Framingham!  Now I remember!  Thanks to you both!

You are more than welcome and the only reason I even know is because I grew up in that area!

    Try Martin's House of Cloth
    River Road
Bedford, NHThis is very easy to get to off of 293. Take the Kilton road exit and left at the bottom. It is a large garishly painted building on the left. Their home dec is phenomenal and there are bargains. Upstairs is quilting and garment fabric too. solo

Check out the Exeter Handkerchief Factory, 48 Lincoln Street, Exeter, NH, 03833, 603-778-8564.

Don't be scared off by thier name, they have room after room and a couple of floors of home dec fabrics and trims.  They are not a discounter, but do have bargains, and they have great sales, which they send little postcards out for so you don't miss them.

They also sell furniture, and may have a custom drapery program, not quite sure about that though.  The furniture is scattered throughout the store, and is all done in white muslin, so you really see the SHAPE of it, and can choose your own fabrics, I think that is a really great idea.

    Good luck!

There are three that I know of in Connecticut. One in Hartford - called Decorators Source Outlet. It is in a manufacturing building where they make Home Dec items for several catalogs. It is at 30 Bartholomew Avenue in Hartford. There you can get whatever they have left over from their work. Good prices but the selection is limited by their choices. The second place is Banksville Designer Fabrics in Norwalk, I have bought lots of fashion fabric there at great prices and now they have Home Dec too. They have a web site and you can call for samples - they give an ASG discount of some sort too. (http://www.banksvilledesignerfabrics.com)The third place is Home Fabric Mill in Chesire, CT.(homefabric.com) I have not bought anything here recently, but they did my mother drapes and bedspread, etc and did a beautiful job. Good prices and good selection. One place you may find in MA or NH is Affordable Fabrics - they have fabric for $1.99 - but they also carry some overruns of Home Dec fabric at good prices. Again, price beats selection. One thing to note when you are purchasing Home Dec fabric from outlets, buy enough so you aren't trying to match colors later on because you need more fabric. You don't know why the fabric ended up at the outlet and if it is older than a couple of months the colors may have changed slightly in the new runs.

If you go to yellowpages.com and search on fabrics for an area you will get a large list of places that supposedly sell fabrics. How you can differentiate between the outlets and bigger suppliers is to use the map feature and the aerial or satellite view. When you look at the area using that feature you can tell if it is in a residential area - someone working out of their home or an industrial area - more likely to be an outlet; or a shopping center - could be either an outlet or just retail. Those I would call and check and ask about their prices. Good luck, j

New Egland Fabrics is in Keene NH, I've been there once, they had a large dept of decorator fabric. I wasn't there for that so I didn't spend much time checking the prices. Good place for apparel fabric. Fabric Place is only open in MA, they closed the rest of their stores, when they sell the end of the bolts you get good deals. South Portland Maine has a store but I don't remember the name.

Osgood Textile in Springfield, MA is a warehouse of great decorating and fashion fabrics. Be sure to check website for hours, I don't think they are open on Saturday, however, they are open on Sunday. It's a great place.
