one shoulder lower

dotty | Posted in Fitting on

Hello. I’m contemplating trying an old favorite again. I’ve already successfully done a FBA on it. This time I would like to refine it futher by raising the armscye to eliminate some bagginess around there. However I only recently realized I had another fitting problem which is one shoulder is lower than the other . The question is, after I lower the shoulder, do I then re-lower the armscye to make the two armscyes match so that I don’t have to do two differnt sleeves? I think I answered my own question, but I’d love some feedback.

I read a suggestion somewhere for one low shoulder that involved using one shoulder pad to raise the low shoulder. That way the dress hangs well and the low shoulder is camouflaged.

If you really do want to change the shoulder, do keep the armscye the same on both sides or you could end up looking really lopsided!

    Hope this helps,

    Becky

Just to clarify, when you said keep the armscye the same ,am I right in thinking that you meant the total length of the seam should be the same rather than the placement? I'm not a big fan of shoulder pads and my adjustment isn't huge. But it did seem to make a difference in a shawl collar lying proprerly when I finally got the shoulders right.

        Yes, you've got it.
