Hi, I’m about to get a new sewing desk (after sewing for two years on a cheapy foldout table). Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

Mary,
On the front page of Gatherings you will notice a post from Chuck T. about sewing cabinets. I think that the answers from Dawn Jardine and myself will help you considerably. It is great to get a better work area. Congrats and enjoy.

Don't know if you purchased one yet, but I have a Horn of America with an electric lift their top of the line with several fold out tables.
I haven't seen the electric model advertised any more, but you can ask about it. It is terrific. You just press a button to lift and lower the machine. Quality is great. I used to work in the industry so I know about these things and I'm very fussy.
Your original post was some time ago and I don't know how ready to purchase you were/are BUT---
This is not a very sophisticated solution but I sure am satisfied.
I purchased a flat unfinished door at the local lumber yard. Placed it atop two two-drawer metal file cabinets. Perfect height, lots of space including storage. It's been great for the last 18 years.
Go to Staples or Office Max and buy yourself a computer desk "L" shaped workstation. They usually run about $159 - $200. I bought one and love it! My sewing machine is on one end and my serger on the other. My chair has wheels so away I go to whichever machine I need. The desk usually also has a side self built in so you can store manual or whatever. Happy hunting!
