I am replacing an invisible zipper in a child’s dress. How would I handle the bodice, which is lined when the fabric and lining are apart at the seam?
Sew the zipper to fabric and overstitch the lining in place?
If there’s a better way, would someone post instructions.
Thanks,
Carol

There are a few variables here... how was it put together in the first place? Is the bodice the only part lined? Does it look like the lining was stitched on to the zipper tape after the zipper was installed? or were bodice and lining treated as one layer and stitched to the zipper?
Once the invisible zipper is properly placed in the seam, the lining can be folded over (right sides together)and stitched to the zipper tape, then folded back into its place and the raw edge is covered. Clear as mud? I'll look for a picture, or take one if you like?

To answer your questions, yes the bodice is the only part lined. It's hard to tell how the zipper was inserted because the zipper is only attached to the bias trim at the neck.
I am hesitating to insert the new zipper and stitch through both fabric layers because I am picking up sewing after a 15 year break.
Thanks for your email.

So the zipper was out of place before you got it?Bias trim at the neck.... do you have a digital camera?
A photo is worth a K words!
I had started to type an answer then realized I need more facts!
How the bodice, bias trim and lining come together and the zipper too; this could be really easy or a small nightmare!Do you have the proper foot, a regular zipper foot might not work. Invisible zippers need to be un-folded so you can stitch VERY close to the coil. That is what makes them invisible.
Hope to be helpful,
Becky
