replacing mens’ pant zipper

browder | Posted in General Discussion on

My son has asked that I replace a broken zipper in his denim suit pants.  I consider this a monumental task and would appreciate any help that any could offer.  Thanks, Coogan

    broken zip

Carefully take out all the stitching and replace the zipper in the opposite order.  It is not a pleasant job and can take quite a while to do, especially if this is your first one or you are not a really experienced sewer.  I would cheat and take it to a tailor.  They have lots of experience, can do it quickly, and will save you lots of frustration.  I am a trained tailor - but working at another job right now - and would take it to someone else.

browder, did you get your son's pants zipper done? I have all the photos to make a tutorial. Would you like me to do that? Sorry, I just found this thread.

Try googling the book "clothing alterations secrets revealed" you will find Judith Turners website for clothing alterations with EXCELLENT instructions, she also sends a monthly e.mail on clothes alteration / fitting topics. I bought  the book as a PDF download as the postage from Austraila to UK was expensive. She also gives advise about running a business altering clothes
