hello, this is my first time on, very new, looking to buy a sewing/embridery machine.  been sewing for 30 years…just sewing and quilting , nothing exotic.  Ready to branch out. Am looking at a Brother Innov-is 1200  or  Baby Lock ellure.  Any comments?

Both are good machines.  I personally think Baby Lock rocks!

Read up on machine embroidery so you will know what to ask for.  I recommend Embroidery Machine Essentials: How to Stabilize, Hoop, & Stitch Decorative Designs by Jeanine Twigg.

Home embroidery machines all have the same basics, then come the bells & whistles.

My number one recommendations is to get a machine that uses the usb media stick.  This will be used to move designs from your computer to the machine.   There are gobs of free embroidery designs on-line.  Brother and Baby Lock also have freebies.

A good site that has lots of discussion on machine embroidery is sewforum.com.

Choose the dealer you like best.  They will give a free lesson on operation of the machine, but ask about classes.
