Hi, I am planning on shortening a pair of jeans into three quarter length style. I can easily cut and hem them. But before I go with just a plain hem style would there be anything that I could do to make them look as if they were always meant to be short. I did a brief search through the discussions and archives but could not find anything to help. Would a deeper hem work? Side slits? How do you retrofit them? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
thanks
Lizabeth

Lizabeth, it depends on what you have to start with, i.e., ease in circumference at the 3/4 length, and the finished "look" you want to end up with. With that in mind you could check for some variation in styles for that length. A good place to look is at http://images.google.com/ and type in keywords "3/4 length jeans" -- there are about 5 pages of images.
thanks diday,
I hadn't thought of google images and found a rather nice 3/4 pair with a 'deep' hem that look compatible with the base jeans that i want to alter. I have printed the picture and will have a go tonight.
i cannot locate this site so let me know if this site correct
Dionna, just click on this link http://images.google.com/ and you'll see a blank box to type in your keyword, then click on the Search button.
THANK YOU
When ever I have shortened jeans I use an orange-y thread and actually sew a visable stitch around the bottom. During a visit to France a while back, lots of people there were actually heming their jeans using a prick stitch, and it looked so strange.
THANK YOU I WILL TRY THIS
I did this a while ago, I did side slits and then bar tacked across the end of the side seam. Topstitched with matching jeans thread and they looked great when done. My secretary asked me where I bought them like that! :-)
