source for Curved Petersham grosgrain…

Pam_Walters | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

I’ve been searching to no avail for something called Super Curve Curved Petersham grosgrain ribbon. I read about it in Susan Huxley’s Sewing Secrets from the Fashion Industry. It’s for facing contoured waistbands. Can anyone recommend a source? I’ve even struck out at a couple of millinery supply companies.

Petersham ribbon is hard to find. It differs from regular grosgrain in that it can be molded into a curve with steam. One current source is The Sewing Place in Saratoga California. The website is http://www.thesewingplace.com.

*I know this discussion is rather old, but for anyone who is looking for other sources of grosgrain and petersham (a much stiffer fabric used in hatbands and, sometime, waistbands), as well as a nice tailoring supply catalog, Greenberg & Hammer, Inc. sells black and white petersham in 1" widths. They sell it by the yard for $2.95 (USD), by the 21-2/3 yd roll (20 meters), by the 36-yard roll, and by the 54-yard (50 meters) roll. They also carry grosgrain ribbon in nearly 60 colors and in widths from 3/8" to 2-1/4". It is sold by the yard and in 20-yard rolls. Their catalog is free. Their store is located at 24 West 57th Street, near Fifth Avenue in NYC, across from Bergdorf Goodmans. Their toll-free number is 800-955-5135; fax 212-765-8475.

*I like Judith M for millinery supplies. There is a very good selection on the website under Products, then Millinery Belting/Petersham. There are several widths, light and dark neutrals and several colors. You can order by the yard or get a 50 yard roll. The website is http://www.judithm.com

*Did you try the Tailoring Supply in Portland, OR?
