Surgical Corset Fitting

Regina_Gagliano | Posted in Fitting on

Greetings,

My mother has severe scoliosis and has been in a back brace for several years. It has never really fit well, but after the last fitting, it came back with darts and the pockets for the steel stays left OPEN at the top so that every time she sits down they slide out and cut into her.

The first problem is that I have very knowlege of corsets and the second is I’m in Tucson and she’s in Florida.

As to the first problem- lots of good info on period corsets available, but I’m not finding much on surgical corsets. As to the second- I’m trying for a visit this summer-needing a sailboat fix, too.

Thanks,

Gina Gagliano

Regina, most corsets have some type of binding sewn at the top and bottom edges, which keeps the stays from sliding out. It sounds as if this was left open after the alteration. It should be a fairly simple thing to fix (if you can get there to visit her....)

If you look at it and have no idea how to fix it, I suggest that you take it to a surgical supply house or to a specialty bra shop, and ask for suggestions.

Let me know how it goes.
