Tedonitus

ElenaYDesigns | Posted in General Discussion on

A day without sewing is like a day with nothing to do, and for that matter at least a day each week without golf  is likewise.

I have been diagnosed with tendonitus in my right hand and wrist and have been advised by my doctor to ease off of both of these activities that i fill my days with.

Anybody out there know an easy solution to be able to sew while suffering with tendonitus without causing further harm. I welcome any suggestions.

I always go to the Mayo Clinic web page:  mayoclinic.com, when I have something I want to know about medical problems.   I typed in tendonitis and got some good, reliable advice.  It would seem that with letting your arm rest for a week or two you may be back in the swing of things.  In the meantime I guess you'll just have to "organize your stuff"... that's how I enjoy myself without actually sewing.  Or maybe planning my next project... that always takes up a lot of time.

      tendonitis

Thanks so much for your reply. I will try to curtail my activities for a while and will check out mayoclinic. Found out today that my x-rays don't show tendonitus, but that I actually have a flare up of congenetive osteo arthritis which I guess is not exactly good news.

      Thanks for your help.

    Have you tried R.I.C.E.?

I, too, have a bit of tendonitis in my right elbow right now, the result of a new golf class and some racing-to-meet-a-deadline crocheting. My co-worker reminded me of the basic sports first-aid:  Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation, and after taking his advice for a few days, I feel much better.

I try  to do more daily life things with my left hand and take it easy with my right.  I'm more careful about the gear shift, parking brake release, opening the fridge, and picking up things.  I'm also focusing on sorting my patterns and stash rather than sewing or crocheting right now. "Rest"

I try to ice it for 20 mins. a couple times per day. "Ice"

I wear an elastic bandage during the day. "Compression"

And I rest it along the right arm of the sofa or easy chair while reading or watching tv.  "Elevation"

Although these remedies may not alleviate osteoarthritis, they probably won't hurt you, either.  Get well soon!
