i have gained some weight and want to wear an unlined jacket that is too tight in the arms. somewhere i read that you can add a gusset under the arm. what do i need to know to do this? is it just a diamond shape that gets sewn into the underarm and side seam? i want to take it with me on a trip next week… why do i always wait til the last minute? any help would be appreciated.
thanks
nance

well i figured it out...not that hard after all! for anyone who doesn't know how here's what i did. i took the collar off for the gusset. i ripped out under the arm and tried it on then ripped out a little more since it still pulled. i had about three inches ripped out of the upper side seam under the arm and about seven inches of the arm seam. i separated the collar and ironed it flat then finger pressed it in half lenghth wise. i pinned one end of the collar piece at the fold to the arm seam at the point where i stopped ripping and the other, fitting as i went, to the underarm seam. i then pinned the end of the side seam(where it connects to the sleeve) to the widest point of the collar piece then continued down the sleeve seam. then again on the other side. it worked great the first time. i was pleased. then to finnish the neck line where i removed the collar, i serged a three thread flat hem around the edge and continued down the friont and around the hem and back up to the neck. i finnished the sleeve edges also. it looks great! a different design from the manufacturers but now its an original! i hope i have i written this clearly enough? nance
