Viking’s new machines

sewbobbi | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

I am considering buying one of Viking’s new embroidery machines – either the Topaz or the Diamond.  The price difference is about $5K in my area.  Functionally the difference seems to be the on screen display.

Has anyone used either of these?  Comments?

For users of any machine, how important is the on screen display?

I don't have one of the machines that you are interested in but I do have another model Viking. I have seen posts by others on other forums that the Topaz models are compared more to the Sapphire models being almost the same machines but the Topaz has embroidery. If you haven't already checked you might want to go to the HV website and see that the Diamond has many more stitches and features than the Topaz models besides just the different screen. I think the  rows of lighting and the ability to adjust the lighting is also available on the Diamond.

I have the Designer SE, well, two of them and I love them.  I think I was under the impression that the Topaz is an 'embroidery only' machine whereas the Diamond is a sewing/embroidery combo.  Someone out there, please correct me if I'm wrong....  that would surely explain the price difference.

Both the Topaz 20 and Topaz 30 are sewing/embroidery models. They are much like the Viking Sapphire machines but with embroidery. Both  Topaz models have over 100 stitches plus alphabets. I think the T30 has 163 stitches and 3 alphabets. The Topaz 30 has more features over the Topaz 20. The 30 comes with more feet and I think it is 11 feet. The T30 I think not only has more sewing stitches but also  more embroidery stitches built in. The Topaz 30 also has a larger emb. field, more memory, separate bobbin winding motor, automatic thread cutter and jump stitch cutter, stitch restart and mirror imaging both end to end and side to side. There is a chart on the Viking website that combares these 2 models. I don't know how many emb. hoops come with each machine.

Thank you!  boy! I was out in left field, huh?  I had seen the Topaz when at the dealer but didn't really pay attention as I was there on other business.  Somewhere I 'thought' I read that it was embroidery only.  Thank you for setting me straight.

The Diamond is a gorgeous machine but it is large........I'm  not sure that I would have room for it, even if I wanted to upgrade (read: could afford to upgrade!).  I don't know that the Diamond has enough extra features that I don't have with my SE...........enough to warrant the $$$$ spent.  I do like my SEs and am very glad I got them..........now if I could train them to clean, do laundry and cook, I'd be set!
