What’s the difference between a sweater and a sweatshirt?

ravi854735 | Posted in Fashion & Design on

A sweatshirt has a band at the bottom and is made out of the same material as sweatpants. While a sweater is usually made from a poly blend or some type of knit blend. For example, a style of a sweater might be a cardigan, where a style of a sweatshirt can be a pullover with a hood or simply a banded at the bottom sweatshirt.

Sweatshirt is a long-sleeved pullover garment. It covers the upper body and the arms, just like a hooded sweater. ... A hoodie, on the other hand, not only has a hood as an extra but often also cords that peep out of the hood to tighten it. Some hoodies also have a zipper so you can opt to wear it open. I have been just share a picture of beautiful astro hoodies that I wear in a daily routine.

Because of their different constructions and materials, sweaters drape and follow the curves of body, whereas sweatshirts hold shapes.

Sweaters (jumpers, pullovers) are made from interlocking loops of a continuous yarn, the method of knitting, and as a result, they are elastic and flexible. Patterns and graphics are created in the same garment kitting process.

Sweatshirts are made from cutting and sewing patterns of either knitted or woven fabrics that are heavier and thicker than Tshirts and less elastic or flexible than sweaters to create shapes and forms. Patterns and graphics on a sweatshirt are created from the weaves of the cloth or separately by printing, dyeing, embroidering, painting, spraying, and sewing onto the fabrics.

The term sweaters can be used to refer to a variety of knitted garments, predominantly used for cardigans and pullovers. These have a fine elasticity, which gives them a nice body-fit and has a softer drape to it. Cardigans have an open front, fastened with a zipper or buttons while pullovers are put on over the head. Both are fancy and sophisticated and are available in many stylish necklines and waistlines.

Sweatshirts too can be classified as one of the varieties of sweaters. However, they have a sporty and athletic appearance, unlike cardigans and pullovers that are dressier. They are usually deemed as exercise clothing because their fabric is designed to raise the core body temperature; this causes perspiration and thereby leads to weight loss. When paired with a sweatpant, it forms the ideal work out costume, popularly known as sweat suit. A hooded sweatshirt is popularly known as a hoodie.
