Summer Sewing Challenge - Express Yourself in Linen

Beaded Ribbon-woven Linen Jacket

Jacket Front

This original design was constructed using my Counterpoints Jacket pattern.  The medium weight linen was the perfect canvas to showcase my woven ribbon technique.  After drawing out warp and weft threads in 10-strand widths, hand-dyed ribbon was woven through the fabric.  Glass beads were added along the ribbon at various intervals.  The jacket is fully interfaced with a lightweight fusible tricot to strengthen the fabric and reduce wrinkles.  Mohair/wool headers were inserted to provide soft structure to the sleeve caps.  On-seam side pockets and a faced buttonhole are subtle details that keep the embellishments center stage. A mother-of-pearl button also features beading to complete the design. The bias binding was made from an antique tablecloth that was part of the same hand-dyed collection as the ribbon and the lining is purple Bemberg rayon.

The colors and the detail are very pleasing to the eye.
The pattern is a refreshing update of a classic design....Good work Gail.
