Summer Sewing Challenge - Express Yourself in Linen

Vintage Linen Hats

The Linen Summer Sewing Challenge

Tulip Hat

Having dyed unbleached linen using an organic indigo the fabric was cut on the bias and then blocked onto a buckram base. Strips of linen were cut from the dyed fabric and sewn to form the stems of the flowers. Flower heads were then cut out and attached to the stems. These in turn were applied to the crown and brim. Ruched strips of indigo fabric were sewn to the edge of crown and brim.

Daisy hat

Very loosely woven linen was used to form the base flower in this design. Small flower centres made from the indigo linen formed the middle of the flower. These were then sewn together and set onto a sinamay base which in turn was attached to an Alice band. Strips of natural straw were then dyed and threaded through the flowers to form loops.

Your daisy design hat almost inspires me to try making hats myself. But will leave to experts like you. Wonderful design.
