SewStylish Spring Fashion Challenge 2014

Prom dress

This was a project for my couture sewing class, to create a prom dress using couture techniques. The pattern was inspired by a vouge pattern, and I modified it to create my own pattern. Before sewing this dress I created a muslin version to test out the fit of the dress. The fabric used is silk chiffon and silk organza for the outer layer, polyester for the lining and the dress is fully lined. Each panel of the upper part was ruched by hand, using a 6 to 1 ratio with boning inside to keep the top up. The lower part is a full-circle bottom with 3 layers total, the second layer is thicker and has more body to it to create the fullness of the dress. The waistband is a separate layer made from the leftover silk chiffon.
