Add High-End Elements to Your Garments

Threads magazine - 174 - Aug./Sept. 2014 Issue

In Jacque Goldsmith’s article from Threads #174 (August/September 2014), she shares two trendy techniques that will make your garments more stylish than ever before. In addition to sumptuous fabric, a beautiful silhouette, and careful stitching, an exceptional and well-placed design element can take a garment from so-so to spectacular. I love to scour designer garments to find inspiration for special details, figure out how they work, and include them in the garments I sew. Here, I’ve honed in on two details that caught my attention recently. In addition to being on-trend, they leave lots of room for your creativity and fabrications. I’ll show you how to create a beautiful lace-filled slot seam and a chic cargo pocket with a hand warmer. These creative elements are as fun to sew as they are to admire. They will make your sewn garments the subject of envy and intrigue wherever you go.
