Bride of Frankenstein
November 4th, 2009 in reader's closetWhen my 12 year old decided she wanted to be the Bride of Frankenstein for Halloween I thought YES and easy costume! It turned out to be deceptively hard to get the correct look. After looking up pics of the original I was having a hard time deciding how to get the fullness and shoulder look correct, without the fullness at the neckline. I finally made a "base lining" dress with the padded shoulder, and the main dress is actually a full circle of a semi-sheer crepe type fabric. The seams run from the neckline to the hem straight across the shoulders with just a space left free for the arms to go through. I bought a long crimped black wig, and stuffed a kneehigh panty hose sewed it to the crown of the wig and arranged the hair around it. The final effect was 6 yards of cheesecloth, tea dyed and wrapped around her arms. I think it should win because its a very close copy of a very classic scary movie! However, we did laugh when she entered a local costume contest judged by teenagers and they announced her as "The bride of Dracula!"
