Custom couture: using unexpected fabric

I choose to make the jacket out of Home Dec. upholstery and the skirt out of matching worsted wool. Both garments are fully lined. The Jacket is Claire Shaeffer’s Vogue 8333 and the skirt is Vogue 1100. I have been sewing for over 30 years. I have wanted to try Home Dec fabric for garments after an article in Threads.

Looks very custom. I especially admire that collar; from personal experience I know material that thick isn't easy to handle in tight corners.

I love it. Nice job. I sew with home dec often. It is a great place to shop. Look at their silks sometimes you can get a great deal.

Thank you all so much for your comments. I really enjoy sewing all kinds of garments and things for my home. I make a lot for family members and friends as well. I wish I had more time to sew. I agree with the home dec. comment. I always check. I have a beautiful silk blouse I made to wear over a tank. I am working on several projects right now. I am making a wool coat for my youngest son using a Burda pattern. Once again thank you and happy sewing.

Beautiful jacket! I have often thought some home dec fabric would make lovely garments. You chose a beautiful fabric that looks so classy. Great match with the skirt, too.
