Eliza Doolittle
Handmade Eliza Dolittle
I made ethis costume for my 11 year old daughter . She is a huge fan of musicals and asked if I could make this dress for her.
The dress is made from white satin with a lace overlay. I didn't use a pattern . I just made it up as I went along. Once I had the basic shape for the dress ,I pinned it to my daughter and fitted it to her size and shape.
The bows were the biggest challenge for me. I bought white and black satin and fused strips of the satin together using fusible bonding. I turned under all the edges and pressed them well to prevent any fraying.
The hat has a paper mache base that I covered with satin. I then sewed and glued on a giant bow ,silk flowers and feathers.
The handbag is made from remnants of the dress.
The parasol is a wooden dowel with a wood knog glued to the end . I then covered it with the satin and lace and cinched it at the top and bottom.
I hope we win because I want to continue to try to be a better seamstress. I am always trying to challange myself with more difficult projects.
