Keep Track of Yardage

submitted by Darleen A. Clements
from Threads #94

Have you ever looked at a stack of fabric in your stash and wondered how large the bottom fabric piece is? Instead of pulling it out to measure it, store all your fabrics so that you’ll know at a glance how much you’ve got: After every fabric purchase, prewash, then mark the number of yards and fabric width at one end of the selvage with a permanent marker (in case the fabric is washed again later). Place the folded fabric on the shelf with the notations clearly visible. To use a selected fabric, cut from the marked end, and re-mark the remaining selvage with the new length.
