Quick to Make: 1920s Panel Dress

Threads magazine - 177 - Feb./Mar. 2015

This article from Threads #177 (February/March 2015) by Leimomi Oakes includes everything you need to know to make this gorgeous dress.

Vionnet’s designs are ever relevant for sewers wanting to emulate the Art Deco look. This loose, pull-on paneled dress is a modern version of Vionnet’s “Chiton” (pronounced “kie-tun”) design of 1920. It skims the body, while the dangling panel ends flutter as you move. The dress is best made in a soft, draping fabric such as: crepe made of silk, wool, rayon, or polyester; or crepe kimono silk. For a glamorous evening look, use an embellished sheer, and wear the paneled dress over a silky slip. A looser dress is more period accurate, but you can make it with less ease for a slimmer, more modern fit.
