When making bound buttonholes or welt pockets, I place a sheet of graph paper (ruled 8 squares to an inch) on the wrong side of the garment. Using the lines as a sewing guide, I'm able to stitch perfectly straight seams and square corners, and the paper is easy to remove when I'm finished.
