Make a Removable Button Strip
Many valuable buttons are old or delicate – not suitable for washing. But Bill Voetberg has discovered a way that the garments you make with them can still be cleaned. In his article from Threads #179 (June/July 2015), he writes:
I wanted a solution that would make the buttons easily removable for cleaning. The answer also needed to be undetectable when the shirt was worn and comfortable to wear. The standard solution is to remove the buttons and sew them back on every time a garment is cleaned. I came up with a better way: a removable button strip. The strip attaches to the shirt when worn and removes for cleaning. It also protects buttons from ironing.
