body scan anyone ??

RitaLC | Posted in Fitting on

Hi  I’m new to this forum but really like it.  Has anyone had a body scan and patterns made?  I’m considering getting one done at the Cleveland Sewing Expo this month and would like to hear your comments.

Thanks,

Rita

    Hi, RitaLC.

My 84-year old mother and I had bodyscans at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in 2004. I have had good success with Unique Patterns and I recommend them (see my more extensive posting to Ms. Raines under the Patternmaking Topic---I think it's number 24 or 25).

There are limitations to Unique Patterns---for example, I have an assymetrical body. The patterns are drafted to my high shoulder, and I am told to fill in extra shoulder pads on my low shoulder. Usually, this remedy works. Pants are difficult to get accurately. I sent back the first pants pattern I ordered twice before the company got it right.

On the other hand, the fit of jackets are a dream. The fit accomodates my forward head thrust, broad shoulders and narrow rib cage, large, low bust, etc.

Anyway, I have LOTS of experience with Unique Patterns, and I would be glad to share with you. Bottom line---I highly recommend them!

Hi  Thank you so much for replying. I'll  give it a try.   Do you need to make an appointment or just show up and get in line?  .  I have all this fabic and don't really want to cut it becaue of past experience in trying to get something to fit.  I am hoping this will work if not I'll just stick to making quilts.

As I recall, you make an appointment.Wear your usual underwear; that is, don't wear a heavy corset (does anyone even own a heavy corset any more?) if you plan to wear something else under your new wardrobe. In other words, you want to achieve an accurate body profile. They tell you not to wear necklaces.I can't remember if you wear shoes or not.(I'm working from memory here---back to the Houston Internat'l Quilt Festival of November 2004---my information may not be up to date.)The fee used to be $100.00, which included one pattern. When my mother and I went, I paid $100 for her body scan, but only $30.00 for mine because it was an update. I had had a bodyscan previously when we lived in California, for which I paid full price, but I had gained weight since then. Ahem. The company only charged me $30.00 for the second scan, but I got a free pattern for referring my mother. I truly hope you enjoy the Unique patterns as much as I have. It's an expensive project, but, to me, it has made the difference between whether I can sew my own wardrobe or not. My fitting issues largely have been solved. And I have a lot of fun making my own designs using the Unique patterns as a well-fitting basis for creativity.I justify the extra expense of the patterns and body scan by thinking about the money I save by sewing my own clothes. (Yeah, right, and then spend all the savings plus some on more fabric!)
