Hi Cindy, Go check this site: http://www.sewing.org then click on 'sewing enthusiast', then click on 'fashion sewing', and have a look at the project 'how to make a jeans skirt'. This may be a great way to use some of those beautiful soft old jeans.
Good luck
You could use the rag quilting technique...that way you'll get use of all the jeans...even the torn ones. Good luck with your project!!
I made one for my daughter who is 18 and she is thrilled with it. I used crazy quilting to make the center front and back godets and side pieces as she needed more width added to too small jeans of hers. I used silks that I pieced together following instructions in an old Threads on how to crazy quilt. I also removed the waistband and used grosgrain ribbon to make a waist facing leaving the denim to fray above the ribbon, not seaming it. I made a button hole in the waist facing behind zipper. I made the godet flat, just a triangle insertion, but you could make it flare if you use a softer material. We also didn't cut the seams, but opened them up far enough for them to lay flat and overlap the required amount. Take a look at them in stores and you can see a wide range of solutions.
