How to Reshape a Neckline

Threads magazine - 169 - Oct./Nov. 2013

If the neckline on a pattern you’ve chosen to work with doesn’t suit you-whether your concern is figure flattery or style-don’t despair. There’s no need to search for a different pattern, because you can alter the one you have to create any neckline shape you prefer.

Do you find a jewel neckline boring or unflattering? Then simply change it to a V or sweetheart neckline. Or lower it and add volume and shaping with pleats, or use darts to draw the eye upward.

You can use a fitting sloper or pattern block as a master pattern for these alterations, or start with any semifitted, jewel-neck top or dress pattern that fits you well. The alterations explained here can be used on patterns intended for knits or wovens. Make a copy by tracing your chosen master pattern, and work with the copy to preserve the original for future uses.

These neckline alteration methods are also ideal if you’re designing your own patterns from a basic block or sloper. In this article from Threads #169, Emma Seabrooke will explain how to make these simple neckline changes which will help you explore more complex shapes and treatments in your pattern work.

I am not a techie but you could try cleaning up your computer and trying again. Run whatever software you use to make sure you have no viruses and then try again. If you do not have a program then try using Malwarebytes Anti-malware. This is a free program and although you can use the paid version the free one is just a week behind the paid one. To run a full scan will take at least an hour and a half but it might be worth it.

I am glad to know that I am not the only one who cannot get these videos. When I have e-mailed you about this, you told me to get another browser, etc. I do not have a virus. If these videos are to be sold then they should be available in several different modes of downloading. So far just a WASTE OF MONEY.

I am assuming the above subscribers have adobe acrobat reader installed (which is free) or else they won't be able to open the pdf files. Another browser may not be the answer and neither will cleaning up the files although it certainly will make the downloads faster

Tried in both Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer and cannot open any "insider" downloads. Strange thing; I just successfully downloaded the excerpt from the Fitting Book that is offered for free at the top of the insider page. What is different about the article downloads that makes them fail?

I'm disappointed that this article doesn't address altering the neckline facings. I mean, surely if one alters the shape and construction of the neckline, one would need to alter the facings as well.

On a different topic, I purchased the most recent issue of the "Fitting" book. Again, it seems that the editors left out something very basic and important to anyone trying to learn how to alter clothing and patterns to actually fit one's shape...there was no section on how to fit hips and thighs. Granted, there is an article on how to measure for pants, but nothing on how to alter patterns so they actually fit.

Lots about shoulders and arms, but my problem areas are hips, bum, and thick thighs.

Is it the videos that you cant down load or watch. It could be that you dont have "Shockwave" Flash Player loaded onto your computer or an older version of same try downloading an up to date Flash player and try again. If that doesnt work try Windows Media Player. Hope this helps you. Both are available free on th web, but you will have to Google or other search engine for them.

Further to to my last comment, if its the pdf file that isnt opening with the article showing try clicking on the button that says open with a different reader or words to that effect thats on the right hand side just above the part where you would expect to see the article. Hope this or one of my suggestion work for you and you can enjoy the articles and videos that you paid for in the subs.

This is the first article I could not download. Disappointing. Isn't anyone at Threads addressing this issue?
