White China Coat

Jan 10, 2012
Article Image

Photo #1 I started with white silk duponi, cut into 4″ strips 6 of the strips were app 3 yards long, the two in the center back are only   half of that. I used a fusible light weight interfaceing on the silk strips then randomly embroidered oriental motifs on the strips using gold metallic thread. I then timmed the strips to 3″,serged the lining and silk together I then treated them as a quilt, with a back lining and a fold over binding. Photo #2 is the sleeve which was emblished with dectorative stiches. I joined the strips using a spanish hem foot with a gold metallic cord in the center. Photo #3 is the back of the jacket the collar is attached by using zig-zag dots,Photo #4 is the jacket front.  Photo #5 is the jacket closed with a obi belt . The lining  of the srtips is the same fabrics I used as the binding on the srips cut in random lengths it actually can be worn reversed, but I love the silk and metallic thread. I enjoyed the project so much I made a short jacket in black silk  for the holidays and enjoyed all the compliments.

    Simply beautiful!!!
    I have 2 questions:
    1. What is a Spanish Hem foot?
    2. What are zig zag dots?

I've been sewing for a loooooong time, and I've never heard of either of these.

    Thank you!

Lindamanla!!! this is beautifull!!! really love the way that you have worked from a blank piece of fabric, embellish it, formed in such simple way, and finished in such elaborated way too!!! really lovely, you have done a great job, and I would love to see the black jacket too!!!! Best regards to you all the way from the rainforest!!! "Rainforestcouture":http://www.rainforestcouture.blogspot.com/
