In this episode, fitting expert Sarah Veblen walks through a full fitting of a pants muslin on a model. As she assesses the alignment of the grainlines and horizontal balance lines, she shows how to eliminate excess fabric or add space where needed and how to correct the overall drape of the pants.
Fit issues addressed include excess fabric across the front and at the side seams, an incorrect crotch curve, and drag lines across the back thighs. Sarah demonstrates the pinning of custom-fitted darts at the back waist.
She also shows how to correct the pattern to reflect changes pinned into the muslin, and how to identify that these changes improve the fit in a second muslin.

I often make my final muslin from similar fabric, before cutting out the final pants. If the muslin pattern fits great I have an extra pair of pants to wear.

It was such a pleasure to watch Sarah fitting pants. As a sewing teacher I have fitted so many muslins on my adult students. I certainly understand her exciting feeling as you see flat fabric get sculpted to the body. very satisfying.
