Former Threads senior editor and longtime author, David Page Coffin has been busy making the many facets of garment construction much clearer - on the web and in print. His many blogs, books and tutorials are ones every sewer should know about. Here's a sampling of what he's been up to lately.

David's most active blog, DPC On Making Trousers, features a preview of his new book, Making Trousers for Men and Women: A Multimedia Sewing Workshop, that serves as a how-to for using its additional DVD. While this blog mainly offers information related to his book, he has also provided links to his recent finds: fabric sources for dress shirts and neckties, and Jeffery Diduch's detailed tailoring blog.

Two of David's other blogs, My Virtual Workshop and DPC's Sewing Stuff, offer video previews of CD-ROM workshops he has helped to create with accomplished sewers Marcy Tilton, Kathryn Brenne, and Maggie Backman. Don't miss the sample video tutorials and photographs of their work.

Through downloadable PDFs, you can also explore David's guide to custom making neckties and zoom in on photos from The Shaeffer Collection Volume One: Chanel.

Plus, David's tutorials can be found on YouTube. Here, he shows you how to make a pattern from your favorite shirt and up next is a similar tutorial on pants.

You can bet we'll be following along to see what fantastic tutorials David serves up next.

I'm trying to save time in creating a pattern for a classic fitted women's shirt.

Do you know of any commercial patterns that might work for me at least as a place to start? I have your book and dvd but could use a little head start.

Thanks for your help,

Some updates:
The next posts at On Making Trousers will immediately follow the appearance in Threads of my latest article on making expanding waistbands, a customized-for-Threads version of the same topic in the Trouser book, which comes out in August; I'm guessing the article will be in the next issue…? I plan to post whatever photos didn't make the edit in the magazine, in the same spirit as how I was able to put lots of pix that didn't ft in the book on the DVD that ships with the book; neat idea—ain't digital great? All other Trouser-related posts, such as the video I'll post (under the auspices of Threadbangers!) on making a pattern from an existing pair of pants, are basically waiting for the book to come out.

Next, I'm delighted to announce that my project with Claire Shaeffer (Behind the Seams: Chanel) is finally ready to ship! Visit the link above for more info…

Finally, I've gotta plug my personal labor of love, my Daily Paintings blog, called Eyes & Skies. There's no sewing involved, but I'd surely welcome all my sewing buds and followers to check it out. It's here:
