The word is out in sewing circles: Pat Mahoney, owner of the well-known Pat’s Custom Buttons and Belts company, has decided to retire after 40 years. In a letter to Threads, Pat let us know that it was a difficult decision to make, but she’s going to put her business up for sale.
Pat is an expert at making buttons and belts to order. She’s based in Lodi, California, and Threads has called upon her services a number of times, to ensure we had the perfect closures for a garment. Over the years, Pat collected and mastered vintage button and belt-making implements. Her mail-order catalog features an unparalleled variety of covered button options and belt varieties.
New orders will be accepted until August 31.
Pat’s daughter, Colleen Lobaugh, is handling all business matters relating to the sale of the business. If you are interested or know someone who might be interested in purchasing Pat’s Custom Buttons and Belts, contact Colleen at [email protected].
We’ll miss Pat at the helm of her business, but let’s hope a new owner finds the same joy in helping sewers with custom finishing touches. “When I started this business many years ago, I had no idea the lifetime of friendship, fulfillment and creativity this business would bring me,” Pat told us.
I'm absolutely heartbroken, but glad for Pat, who deserves a happy and healthy retirement. I do hope someone will come forward to buy the business and continue her work. She's the only resource I know in the country for these lines of custom buttons.
I wanted to purchase her business to get more button and buckle styles from Pat, but someone beat me to it...sigh. however I do make custom Belts and Buttons in two of my etsy shops.
