Embellished vintage linens are appealing, but many of us don’t find a use for them in our casual home decor these days. Instead of leaving these pretty, often handmade items in the back of the closet, transform them into wearable beauties. Author Joan McGowan-Michael shows how to create blouses that feature the adornment front and center, with coordinating cotton prints as sleeves.

You can download Joan’s pattern for this blouse, in size Medium, by clicking “View PDF” below. For details about how to construct this blouse, go to “Sew Charming Tops from Vintage Embroidered Linens,” or Threads #225, Spring 2024. The project is simple and appropriate for new sewists. Those with more advanced skills will also enjoy this quick-to-sew garment. There are opportunities for customizing, too: Change the sleeves, add elastic shirring to the back, or even add a tiered, gathered skirt to make a dress.

The pattern is tiled, so you’ll need to print and assemble it. You can find video tips on piecing the pattern together here.
