This is the front view of the oriental-influenced design jacket.
The front view of the dress.  Motifs from the embroidered silk are appliqued to the dress and connected with excess beads from the fabric.
The back of the dress showing the appliques.  The sleeves are seamed down the middle with a shaped slit at the bottom.  The front half of the sleeve is the beaded silk fabric.

I made this jacket and dress ensemble out of embroidered beaded silk and matching plain silk purchased at Estee's Fabrics in Edmonton.  I designed both pieces.  On the beaded silk, I sewed all of the seams freehand without a presser foot, very carefully avoiding the beads.  After the seams were sewn, I removed the beads from the seam allowances and anchored all of the ends.  Not to waste a scrap of the precious beaded silk, I cut a yoke for the dress and the front half of the little sleeves.  I cut embroidered motifs from the remaining scraps, leaving about 3/8" seam allowance which I pressed under and then hand-appliqued to the front and back of the dress.  I then connected the motifs with beads I had removed from the seam allowances.  Both garments are fully lined with bemberg lining.  Phtotographed by my husband.
