Beaded Embroidered Silk Ensemble
comments (4) November 30th, 2009 in design, garment construction, fabric, embellishments, reader's closetI made this jacket and dress ensemble out of embroidered beaded silk and matching plain silk purchased at Estee's Fabrics in Edmonton. I designed both pieces. On the beaded silk, I sewed all of the seams freehand without a presser foot, very carefully avoiding the beads. After the seams were sewn, I removed the beads from the seam allowances and anchored all of the ends. Not to waste a scrap of the precious beaded silk, I cut a yoke for the dress and the front half of the little sleeves. I cut embroidered motifs from the remaining scraps, leaving about 3/8" seam allowance which I pressed under and then hand-appliqued to the front and back of the dress. I then connected the motifs with beads I had removed from the seam allowances. Both garments are fully lined with bemberg lining. Phtotographed by my husband.
