BOOK GIVEAWAY: “Sew What You Love” by Tanya Whelan

You could win this fabulous book!

SEW WHAT YOU LOVE
I love the title of this book. Don’t we all want to sew what we love?

Sew What You Love by Tanya Whelan (Potter Craft, 2011) is a terrific book to add to your sewing collection. It includes many stylish patterns for items such as handbags, clothes and toys for children, adult garments, and home décor items. You’ll find plenty of sewing inspiration, and while many of the projects are easy enough for beginners, there are also more challenging items for intermediate and advanced sewers. Three pattern sheets are enclosed in a pocket at the back of the book that provide everything you’ll need to complete each project. The step-by-step instructions are clear and easy to follow. Often additional tips and guidelines are also included to help you avoid pitfalls.

YOU COULD WIN A COPY OF THE BOOK!
You could win a copy of Tanya’s useful book by simply leaving a comment at the bottom of the page. Tell us why you’d like to have her book. Leave your comment on this post before the deadline–11:59 p.m. EST, Wednesday, June 13, 2012–and you could win a copy of the book. The winner will be randomly selected and announced during the week of June 18, 2012.

Good luck!

Hi - i'm very new to the "sewing world". I am trying to learn everything I can to make projects for me and my 15 year old daughter. I would love to win a copy of this book to add to the many projects we have planned and to learn tips from the "experts".

    Thanks,
    Suzanne

  2. moviedoll | | #2

I'd love to win this book as I have been looking for a book with "workbook" projects to do. I like that it has a range of easy, intermediate, and advanced projects.

  3. IamLilyMunster | | #3

I'd love to win because I love her fabrics and this book looks great.

  4. jennieMB | | #4

I would love some new projects for the summer. The picture with the cone and stacking links is so smart, just like that plastic rainbow stacking toy everyone had.

  5. Judyta | | #5

    Hi Everyone,
Boy O Boy O Boy O I sure would love to get this magazine. I follow the Threads on my computer "Feed" and get lots of good ideas but my skills are so lacking. I can sew a straight stitch and that's about it ! ! Thanks to my Grandmother's patience with me with one of the first original Singer electric machines. Now at home full time I would love to "Get Creative" ! ! Thanks.....Judyta in Pittsburgh

I teach sewing, and I always tell my students to make something that they want to have or wear. Even beginners can make more complicated projects, with a little more time and guidance, and at the end of they process they have something they really want. Sew what you love!!

  7. HEARTOFMYHOME | | #7

Hello from San Diego! I hope this finds you well and happy! You can never have enough books. Never! All the sewing books in my library are treasures and I enjoy and use them constantly. This brand new gem would surely be a welcomed addition due to my hearts desire for a handmade Christmas in 2012.

I hope to win, but if I don't my sewing machine will be working overtime this summer. My love of sewing makes me a winner too!

~hugs to the moon and back,
    Cathy

I love the premise of the book. At this point in my sewing life, it is all about sewing what I like. The few projects I have seen from the book seem quite adaptable to my tastes. Thanks for the chance to win.

There are so many things you can make without buying yet another pattern. It appears that Tanya Whelan has taken thaken that to heart and come up with some of the patterns for us--all in one interesting-looking book. Thank you Tanya!

I am all about sewing what I love. Garments, decor, bags... and especially refashioning things into other things. The only thing I like doing nearly as much as designing and sewing is reading about designing and sewing.

  14. diamondgirlz | | #14

I'd love to win this book! I'm trying to sew up my stash of fabric, and I'm always looking for new ways to use it up!

Hey, I'm from South Carolina and I've been sewing for years and years. At first out of necessity, but now out of a love for the Art. I would love to have a copy of the book, Sew What You Love, simply because I would love to sew the great projects featured in this book. I just recently mailed in the card for a subscription to Threads, because I picked up the most recent issue at the cloth shop. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas and instruction in your magazine. The instructions are very clear and concise.I have a special place reserved for this book, should I be fortunate enough to win it. The ability to sew is a wonderful talent and gift and we must do everything we can to encourage new sewers and share ideas that make sewing so much fun.

I have only been sewing "repairs" in the past 20 plus years and I now have time on my hands and want to get back into the sewing world. Unfortunatly, the techniques I learned more than 30 years ago are outdated and time-consuming. I am always searching for new ways to do projects, altering and would like to try my hand at designing. So, I would greatly appreciate this book to boost my knowledge and get me there.
    Thanks for the opportunity,
    Sandy

  26. marrvalus | | #26

I love sewing books that offer unique, challenging and fun projects. Sewing is an art as well as a practical skill. What better way to learn and practice creativity than to employ those skills making projects that you'll love as the book promises!

  27. ldedo1 | | #27

Hi, I am returning to sewing after feeling quite hopeless because I can't seem to make anything wearable from the patterns I have. Is it just me? Or do patterns seem confusing to a lot of novice sewers? I think this book sounds perfect because of the 'step by step instructions which are easy to follow and the extra help to avoid pitfalls'. Wow!!seems too good to be true.

  32. Carly_Sue | | #32

I would love to win this book. It looks like it is full of wonderful ideas and things to construct.

  37. Jorey | | #37

I really love all kinds of sewing but have to confess hardly ever love what I have sewn!! Especially clothing. I recently purchased some lovely, really pretty material, cotton batic, and was assured this material was o.k. for my pattern. Alas, the material should have been very stretchy, the size I used was 18 and without a word of a lie it would not fit a nine-year old, actually it would have fitted if she could possibly have got it over her shoulders and arms. I thought of putting a zip in the side, or even cutting it right down the middle of the front and adding the necessary facings but I was so cross and disappointed and had made my original facings so perfectly (in my eyes) I just got more and more enraged. It was no use even for a charity shop, except it could be cut up for fat quarters, but I could do this myself (with great pain) and I really loved the fabric. This has not made me give up of course, the sewing that is, and I do not mind how many other things I make that I do no specially approve of, and actually I very occasionally like something I have made. So, I think I should be a suitable candidate for your book. What I need now is plenty of inspiration!

  38. cnewpower | | #38

I am a novice sewer and her projects look very approachable. I would love to win her book. Thanks for the giveaway and such a great mag and site!

I live the idea of the soft cone stacking links. I can't even count how many times I've been "attacked" by the plastic ones. May have to buy the book just for that pattern
